A Full Review of the Betfred Sportsbook Package

Last updated: by Leon Marshal

Betfred is a name long associated with sports betting. The bookmaker has been around since the 1960s and seamlessly moved into the online sphere a number of years ago. Below, we put the famous bookie to the test with our complete Betfred review of everything from its welcome bonus to the look and feel of the online platform.

How to Get the Betfred Bonus

Betfred takes its sign-up offer very seriously and that is clear from the welcome bonus you get on your first deposit. New punters can get their hands on £50 worth of bonuses to be used throughout the Betfred Sports, Betfred Casino and Betfred Lotto platforms. It’s super straightforward, so just follow the steps below to claim the bonus:

You Can Easily Claim Your £50 Welcome Bonus by Following These Simple Steps:

Creation of an account with Betfred.Create Your Account.

Selection of a payment option at Betfred.Select a payment option.

Confirmation of a deposit at BetfredConfirm your deposit.

Betfred certainly knows its customers! It understands that many of us who bet at online sports sites also love playing casino games. That’s what makes this Betfred promo so special.

Not only do you get a terrific return on your initial deposit to use on sports, but you also get bonus spins to try the latest and greatest casino games and some free lotto tickets. This is a well thought out deal as you get the best of everything.

As we said, the process is simple. All you have to do is use the promo code ‘SUMMER50’ when you make your first deposit. Make sure you use a qualifying payment method like a card or PayPal to fund your Betfred account, make your first bet and get your first £50 in bonuses right away.

The bonus offers you get from cashing in on the Betfred promotional code are valid for seven days.

The sign-up bonus is not the only attractive offer that pulls punters to the site. During our Betfred review, we found the range of promotions to be one of its main strengths. There are always a large number of different offers available, across a range of sports. We listed our current favourites for you here:

  • Land one of the longest priced accumulators of the month and you’ll be rewarded with up to £1,000 in free bets.
  • Get your stake refunded if your 6+ fold football accumulator loses by one leg.
  • Get double the winnings if your touchdown scorer winning bet scores another touchdown with the NFL Double Delight promo.

If you still don’t think the Betfred deposit bonus is for you, have a look through our best UK betting bonuses. We sorted through all the bookmakers on our site and hand picked the top options to share with you.

How Are the Standard Features?

The range of sports markets is adequate here, as all the major sports are covered. There are also a number of extra markets, such as politics and entertainment, should those things float your boat.

We’ll be sticking to the sports though, like the Premier League, which has several betting options in terms of markets. Betfred just missed out on making our list of the best football betting sites, which still makes it an excellent choice in terms of sports betting sites.

There is an impressive range of bet types, which are all sorted by tabs, making finding the bet you’re looking for nice and easy. Some other betting sites have more markets, but we think you’ll find what you’re looking for on the Betfred site.

In-play betting is a great experience. The Betfred live betting platform runs smoothly and is well designed, so you can flick between sports, fixtures and bets easily. There is of course a cash-out function, which also works well. Some sites suffer from slow or delayed cash-out functions, but our tests uncovered none of that here.

Available for iOS and Android users, the app has almost all the features of the desktop platform, while having a few exclusive offers and features of its own.

Live streaming is also available. There are not so many events available to be streamed, especially in comparison to some of the bigger operators. Betfred live streams are free to watch, however, you must have a funded account to use it.

A bet of £1 is required on a horse or greyhound racing event if you want to stream that, but that is completely standard across all operators. There’s a dedicated tab for live streaming on the main page, so you can quickly see what’s available to be live-streamed and find the events you want to watch.

Betfred as Seen on TV

The bookie is also a big favourite of horse racing punters in the UK, thanks to its sophisticated Totepool feature. It’s one of the market leaders in this area with a comprehensive service, that coupled with its excellent horse racing service in general, makes it one of the UK’s best betting sites for horse racing fans.

Betfred Mobile Betting App Reviewed

So often with an app, a sports betting site will try and encourage you to play its more profitable line of games such as casino and scratch card games. The Betfred mobile sports app does have links for these offerings. Although, because the company has standalone apps like Betfred Casino, Betfred Lotto and Betfred Sports, the adverts are not as intrusive as other apps.

As you would expect from an established online betting site, the design is sleek and easy to use. Icons at the top of the screen allow access to popular sports like Premier League football with one click. The layout is logical and although slightly different from the desktop version it is familiar enough if you have used the website.

What Payment Methods Are Valid?

The deposit methods are well rounded and have favourable minimum thresholds. That said, there are not so many withdrawal methods available. None of the major names or types is missing, which is good news. That means that there are debit card options, eWallets and prepaid card options. There’s also a bank transfer option if you don’t mind the wait for the deposit to register.

So, while the number of payment methods is fairly small, there’s a range of different payment options, so we’re sure most punters can find a method that suits them here. As we mentioned, the minimum thresholds are low, meaning that low stakes players will be very happy. That said, some players will want to deposit with alternative payment methods that can’t be found at Betfred. If that’s the case, we’d recommend the huge range of payment methods we wrote about in our BetVictor review.

How Good Is the Customer Service?

Should you have a standard enquiry then there’s always the FAQ section available. This is actually really helpful, thanks to its structured layout. The FAQ is split into different sections so you can quickly find the relevant section and then search through the list.

However, there are always questions that FAQs can’t answer and you’ll need a customer service operator. Thankfully, Betfred has you covered in this area.

We wanted to put the customer service team during our Betfred review, and fortunately, the customer service representatives handled our inquiries well. They were always helpful and answered all the questions we had about the Betfred site.

This was true across all contact methods, though live chat was especially helpful, which we’re sure is the help method most users will use. You can contact Betfred customer service via live chat, phone, email or by writing.

A History of the Company

Betfred was formed in 1967 where it originally consisted of just one betting shop in the Salford area of Manchester. Co-founders Fred and Peter Done were not to be content with this though, growing their company rapidly. As of 2016, there are over 1,370 Betfred betting shops across the UK, along with its online service of course. Fred Done returned to the CEO position, taking over from John Haddock.

The company was also not satisfied simply sticking only to sports betting. The Betfred website has constantly evolved to offer new products. Nowadays, you’ll find poker, a video lottery, bingo, and a casino on the online platform. The Betfred website is truly a one-stop-shop for every type of gambler.

Sports betting is the main focus of our Betfred review however and it offers a great package in this area. It is the official sponsor of Wembley stadium, while its red and blue betting shops are a mainstay of the English high street. While it’s not as old as some of the traditional bookies such as William Hill or Ladbrokes, nowadays, the colours of Betfred are just as recognised as these other prestigious operators.

A Well Deserved Good Rating

Moving online was a huge step for all the old-school bookies back in the 1990s and early 2000s. Luckily, most of them managed it very well and this Betfred review confirmed it’s no exception. The online platform performs in almost every area, from looking the part, to offering strength and depth in all key areas. It has taken on innovation in the industry quickly and competently, which means that features such as live betting and cash out are as good here as anywhere else.

An undoubted strength is the bonus and promotions list. The standard promotions list at any one time is huge, with a list that spans different sports and markets. There are also daily specials such as enhanced prices on bets and fixtures. The sign-up bonus is also not to be sniffed at, with a significant return on your deposit in free bets for sports betting and bonus spins to test out in the casino. All in all, this means that Betfred is one of the best in the business for bonuses.

In the interests of fairness, there are a few weaknesses we noticed during our Betfred review that we feel we should point out. The payment methods available are the main issue, since the list of valid options is rather small, especially in comparison to other operators. This is no biggie, but it’s worth mentioning in case you like to deposit with one of the lesser-known payment options.
